- Well, you could try disabling the 3429 symbol rate (S33.5=1),
- and/or you could disable LAP-M error control and use MNP4 instead
- (S15.7=1). Otherwise you could try using vFC instead of v.34 (this only
- works if the PPI modems are the ones based on the Rockwell chipset and not
- the AT&T chipset based modems PPI was rumored to be making). To do this
- you actually have to disable v.8 (S32.1=0), which let prevent the modem
- from negotiating a v.34 connection but will allow it to negotiate a vFC
- connection (if you just disable v.34 and leave v.8 on your modem uses v.8
- to negotiate the connection, and since v.34 is disabled v.8 tries for the
- next ITU protocol, which is 14.4 v.32bis).

- USR does have e-mail support, I believe the address is
- support@usr.com, although I could be wrong. To actually talk to a human
- (instead of their automailer), you're supposed to put 0000 in the subject
- line. Unfortunatly, according to the messages I've seen here, USR mainly
- just ignores all e-mail (IMNSHO, USR's tech support has gotten REALLY bad,
- this fact, combined with some apperent flaws in their new Sportster design
- and the switch to soldered EPROMs has lead me to recommend that people
- avoid USR Sportsters).
